The focus on demolition in Aglaia Konrad's exhibition confronts us with
a figurative, circular need for renewal in the urban fabric, which on a
suprapersonal level reminds us of the violence of war.
The “hygienic” process of demolition is a logistical, highly specialised organisation of removal and disorganisation of materials in order to clear
the space of economically exchangeable obstacles.
A series of conversations, based on aspects related to the exhibition,
are planned on the following dates and times.

Only Six Can Play This Game

It depends on who you are if an entrance is closed or open to you. If you enact your coincidence as an incidence you may outmanoeuvre this mechanism. This shows in the cast of a card game, in its ritualistic inclusion or exclusion of cards in order to complete a given number to a group or not. This shows also in the game with Kafkas „Fellowship“, which counts five people and does not know how to exclude a rejected sixt person which keeps coming back. Is he the first coincidence of each person’s biography, his being born anywhere? Is he talking with an accent that can foil an access since biblical times? Can assimilation through language, clothes, gestures help? These are the questions of a guest in a New York apartment house, whose doorman is not accepting his „how are you“ as a mere password. The coincidence of their encounter transforms the entrance into a rehearsal room for stories that migrate through persons, places, times, and remix their affiliations.

Le Petit Cercle Bruxellois Closing Event

On the occasion of the closing of Le Petit Cercle Bruxellois in Institut de Carton vzw, on Saturday the 7th of December at 4 pm Chris Evans will present his Open Letter to Morning Star.

There are two worms that feature in an airbrush painting that is currently pinned to a wall in the Institut de Carton by a burnt wooden pole. This work by Chris Evans, titled Drippy Etiquette, takes its form as surplus to his project Morning Star Rebranded. Since first attending university, in the late 1980s, Evans has repeatedly approached Morning Star—the UK’s only Marxist daily newspaper—offering a free rebrand. He suggests their current graphic identity could be mis-associated with the styles of right-wing tabloid newspapers such as The Sun and thus undermine their own distinct ideological message. Following a relatively recent pitch, that gained momentum before ultimately being denied, Evans sent a picture of the two worms to the editors accompanied by an Open Letter. The two worms share their surprise and exasperation with us.
